Wonderful! This brings back memories from my old job at Yosemite National Park. Stellar's Jays aren't native to where I live now and I miss them and their nutty antics. I'm amazed that you got such a good shot. From what I remember, they're on the move so much that they're rather difficult to photograph.

I miss seeing these guys around! They wouldn't like it here though, it was -17 F this morning. D: Great shot though.

Sheesh! -17 is waaay too cold. I won't complain about it being chilly here anymore!
The stellar jays have been on hiatus for awhile here as well, in spite of the balmy temperatures that we have. I've not had time for putting out feed for them every day and most of them have moved on. :-(

Aw, well, at least they'll be around. You can always lure them back to you :D Being on the east coast, we don't have any stellar jays.

But you've got cardinals, and we're lacking in that department. :-)

There are one or two of them that were mimicking crows in my back yard. Not sure what effect it had on the other birds. They didn't seem to care one way or the other.

Juvenile Stellar's Jays have quite a bit more dark grey feathers and lack the light blue eyebrows. They also look like gangly teenagers...

Thanks. I can take some of the credit - I feed them constantly, so I suppose it's like having them on the payroll...

I set out some peanuts in the winter time. Have a few scrub jays come around from time to time. Some still pop out from the trees to see what I'm up to when photographing the birds who are feeding on the...well, whatever it is that my trees are producing at the moment.

Indeed. Too bad they're so fickle. Once the peanuts are gone they all fly away...
